Brendan McBride is the Wine Buyer at Swirl on Castro in San Francisco. Born and raised in Massachusetts, he studied Archaeology and Anthropology at Tufts University before heading west on a cross-country road trip after graduating in 2012. San Francisco’s culinary creativity and community inspired him to make the city his home.

Brendan developed his interest in wine, spirits and fermentation while managing the bar at a local independent brewery. His enthusiasm spans wine, craft beer, mezcal and Scotch whisky, bringing a broad beverage perspective to his work. His personal favorites include Château Rouanne Brut Nature 2019 and Wolfburn Northland Single Malt Scotch.

As a USA Wine Ratings judge, Brendan brings the perspective of an independent wine buyer alongside experience in beverage service. His background supports the evaluation of quality, value and packaging, with attention to wines that engage customers and suit the U.S. retail market.
