CASA DE VILAPOUCA – Tradition and Excellence in Wine
The CASA DE VILAPOUCA project has been revitalized by its current owners to continue a centuries-old winemaking tradition, producing wines recognized as some of the finest in the region. Our success is largely due to our unique terroir: a landscape characterized by schist outcrops on granite, with a southward slope facing the Tâmega River and the Marão Mountain Range. These special conditions give rise to wines with perfect maturity, robust structure, intense aromas, and significant aging potential.
Sustainable, Low-Intervention Viticulture
We practice family-run viticulture with minimal intervention, always respecting our terroir and adhering to the principles of Integrated Production. This agricultural system emphasizes high-quality food production, the rational management of natural resources, and the use of natural regulatory mechanisms as alternatives to conventional inputs. As a result, we promote sustainable agriculture and efficient water usage. Our grapes are cultivated and certified according to the rigorous standards of Integrated Production by KIWA Portugal.
Our Brands and Wine Styles
We operate under two distinct brands: CASA DE VILAPOUCA and ENCOSTA DE ESPARIZ, offering three wine styles that reflect the diversity and quality of our work:
National and International Recognition
Our dedication and quality have been recognized in numerous competitions, including:
Among our most awarded wines are Alvarinho Reserva 2021, Alvarinho 2022, Vinhão Reserva 2021, Vinhão Grande Escolha (2021 and 2022), and Padeiro Rose.
Market Presence and Growth Prospects
We are active in both national and international markets, with a presence in Japan, the USA, and Europe. Our commitment is to grow sustainably while preserving the tradition and quality that define us. Currently, we vinify only one-third of our grapes, with approximately two-thirds of our production sold, ensuring a balance between supply and exclusivity.
A House with History
Located in Codeçoso, in the Municipality of Celorico de Basto, District of Braga, CASA DE VILAPOUCA dates back to the 18th century – inscriptions from 1743 attest to its long history. Originally owned by the Cunha e Silva family until the 1980s, the house has a special connection with the renowned Padre Albino (Monsignor Albino), whose story is closely linked to the Brazilian city of Catanduva (more details can be found at: Fundação Padre Albino). Acquired from Padre Albino’s heirs and restored by the current owner, Fernando Carvalho Teixeira, the property also stands out for reviving vineyards that, although abandoned for decades, once produced some of the region’s finest wines.
