Damien Carney is the owner of Avinage, an independent wine shop in downtown Petaluma, California. His career spans wine retail, importing, portfolio management and fine dining, bringing a broad commercial perspective to wine selection and evaluation.

Damien developed his passion for wine while working as a sommelier in New York City’s fine dining restaurants. He subsequently joined Skurnik Wines as Spanish and French Portfolio Manager, deepening his knowledge of European wines through regular visits to producers. After moving to California, he served as Director of Sales at Martine’s Wines before establishing Avinage with his wife, Shree.

Through Avinage, Damien combines his international wine expertise with direct experience helping consumers discover wines across styles and price points. His background brings a valuable independent retail buyer’s perspective to USA Wine Ratings, connecting wine quality and value with the needs of the U.S. consumer.
