HISTORY

After leaving Manhattan for Pennsylvania to help run a family airport advertising business, Interspace, Marianne and her wife, Carolyn, started a long search for an area farm. In 1995, they found “the one,” a 1750’s farm with a little stone farmhouse to live in while renovations to make the old barn into a home could be planned and executed. They named the farm “Maple Springs Farm” in loving memory of Marianne’s grandmother, Helen Maple Doern, who left a legacy of loving a sense of place and helping them establish a home. The non-stop underground springs that bubble through old glacier fields on the farm completed the naming inspiration. It was here that Marianne planted the first vineyards in 2008 with Chardonnay vines, thus Maple Springs Vineyard was born.

After a slow start, the vineyard had three years to take hold before preparing to harvest fruit. Now it was time to start thinking about a small production winery. Eric Metz, our Vineyard Manager at the time, and Marianne completed a joint estate purchase/lease of a property adjacent to Maple Springs Farm but located on Nuss Road. This provided Eric a home and the winery a potential home in a small cabinet making factory located on the property. Carolyn, Marianne's wife, purchased the adjacent garage.

In 2010, Jef Stebben, current winemaker, was brought on board with Maple Springs Vineyard to be part of the Project Management Team, to construct and outfit the winery to match his style. and maximize the quality of the winemaking process. Jef has been a professional in the wine industry since 1995 with experience in Napa, Sonoma, Rutherford, and Washington. The award-winning winemaker received his Bachelor of Science in Fermentation Sciences from University of California, Davis, the top wine program in the country. Jef has experience working all aspects of production with wineries ranging from 100 to 100,000 cases. Starting his career at Opus One and Carneros Creek, he then traveled north to gain experience in other climates. In 2002, Jef started a consulting business focusing on small boutique wineries, filling a much-needed niche for quality winemaking on a smaller scale.

Even in Jef's first year on the East Coast, his Paradise Springs Chardonnay won the Governor's Cup in Virginia. Jef's awards for East Coast Chardonnay and dedication to making great wine on a small scale was the perfect fit. The first 100 cases of Chardonnay, a true "garage" wine as the production facility wasn't fully finished yet, was produced in 2011 and sold out in two months. Under his guidance, the production aspects of the winery were completed in 2012 and the consistent quality and international reputation of the wines established.

Maple Springs Vineyard has made it their mission to grow world-class wines every vintage, allowing the distinct character of each vintage and the vineyard, to express itself while focusing on quality and consistency. With the combined experience, knowledge and passion of our winemaking and vineyard teams, we continue to strive to not only produce and share outstanding wines vintage after vintage but also to continue our pursuit towards more sustainable practices both as an agricultural business and as members of our community. With an eye on the future and the generations that will follow, we continue the tradition of making beautiful, handcrafted wines which resonate with a sense of place and are marked with an unmistakable identity that can only be from Maple Springs Vineyard.

Marianne's passion is not only wine but her commitment to family and social programs of enrichment. A strong supporter of many charitable efforts, her plan is to create a foundation with the profits from the winery to give back and sponsor causes that empower, inspire, and improve the lives of others.

WINE GROWING

The selection of their varietals at Maple Springs Vineyard has been made with close attention to each specific vineyard – their soil makeup, climate influence, elevated hillside locations, and their growing understanding, season by season, of what makes them produce the best wines.

Maple Springs Vineyard planted their first vineyards in 2008 on four acres on Maple Springs Farm, two acres on two different sites on the Farm. They started the project with all Chardonnay vines as it's the varietal we drink it the most often! They have proven it's possible to develop estate grown vinifera vineyards in Pennsylvania that produce high quality, dry, Burgundy-style wines.

Their wines include classic Burgundian-inspired Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Albariño, Grüner Veltliner, and Syrah, as well as a Rosé and Cuvee dessert wine

Maple Springs Vineyard's Wine

CHARDONNAY 2016 Vintage: The 2016 Chardonnay is their Flagship Wine. This gracefully balanced wine was barrel fermented and aged for nine months in a combination of French and Hungarian Oak. Built from both New and Old World Clones, the fruit shines through with gorgeous notes of melon, citrus, and spice.

OLD WORLD RESERVE 2015 Vintage: This wine is comprised of the Old Wente Clone and two of its descendants. For many years, this was the only source for Chardonnay outside France, and thus the name Old World. Aged for 15 months in French Oak with half new and half neutral barrels, this wine was treated with gentle handling in order to allow the true nature of the clones and terroir of our vineyard shine through.

DIJON CLONE RESERVE 2015, 2016 Vintage: Hailing from our two oldest vineyards, Aunt Barbara's and Old Dutch, this racy Chardonnay is sure to please. As time passes and our vineyards age, we are beginning to see the differences in our clones. Driven by powerful flavours and aromatics, this wine was aged in 100% French Oak, with half new barrels and half neutral. The wine was aged in our cellar for 15 months and treated with minimal handling.

PINOT NOIR 2014, 2015 Vintage: 2015 marks the third release of our Pinot Noir. The vines for this wine are a field selection of Dijon Clones and the Joseph Swan Clone. Aged for 18 months in French Oak, this Pinot is showing more complexity, colour, and mouthfeel than earlier vintages. It's a wonderful expression of this fruit and demonstrates the versatility of Pinot Noir.

Rose 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 Vintage: 2017 Rosé was made with ripe Syrah as the centerpiece and rounded out with a field blend of Viognier, Mourvedre, Grenache, and Cinsault. These dark and rich Rhone Varietals have produced a beautiful ruby-colored nectar with notes of pomegranate and watermelon. The mild acidity of this wine makes a lovely pairing with lite fare, cheese, and even pizza. Using techniques of barrel fermentation, and aging in steel, they

Captured the essence of the vineyard for your enjoyment!

GRÜNER VELTLINER 2016, 2017 Vintage: Grüner Veltliner hails from the steep slopes of the Danube River in Austria. Our Pennsylvania grown version of this classic grape shows the bold, fruit driven character of its ancestral homeland. Taking hints from the methods of the

Austrian Masters, we barrel fermented the wine in neutral oak with three different yeast strains. After fermentation the wine was briefly aged in tank where every step was taken to preserve the integrity of the fruit and essence of the vineyard.
