USA Wine Ratings Unveils New "Importer of the Year" Awards

18/12/2024 These awards honor exceptional wine importers globally, recognizing their dedication to quality, value, and innovation, with new categories highlighting top performers by country

The USA Wine Ratings has introduced two distinguished awards—Importer of the Year and Importer of the Year by Country in the USA—to acknowledge the pivotal role importers play in shaping the global wine industry. These awards celebrate importers who excel in curating exceptional wine portfolios, bringing quality wines to market, and catering to the diverse preferences of consumers.

  • Importer of the Year: This coveted award recognizes the importer with the most outstanding offerings to present in the competition. It celebrates excellence in building portfolios that reflect quality, market appeal, and value for money. Judging is based on the performance of the wines entered by the importer, evaluated across three main criteria: quality, value, and packaging.

  • Importer of the Year by Country: This category goes further to highlight the best importer from each of the top 10 wine-producing countries. The eligible nations include France, Italy, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Portugal, South Africa, Argentina, Greece, and Germany. This award showcases importers’ ability to select and promote wines that resonate with the tastes of consumers within specific regions.

How It Works:

Eligibility

  • To qualify, importers must submit at least 10 wines to the competition and identify their company as an importer. For country-specific awards, a minimum of 10 entries per country of origin is required.

Judging Process

  • Wines are assessed based on quality, value for money, and packaging.
  • The total medals (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) won by an importer’s portfolio are tallied.

Importers must achieve:

  • A minimum average score of 85% across their entries, to ensure consistent quality.
  • The establishment’s products should have at least 4 Gold medals to qualify.
  • The importer with the highest overall score wins the title. Process to qualify for Importer of the Year by Country will require the importer to enter 10 products per country of origin in order to qualify, which will then be followed by the same judging process.

Why These Awards Matter:

By introducing these categories, the USA Wine Ratings shines a spotlight on the vital role of importers in connecting wine producers to consumers. These accolades emphasize consistency, innovation, and a commitment to bringing top-tier wines to the market.
