Thanksgiving is a tough event as it requires so much of food preparations, guest preferences, seating arrangements and wine selections. We can make it less complicated, but how? Traditionally, turkey takes the spotlight on Thanksgiving and we just have to pair perfect wines with that tasty turkey and entire delicious food menu.
Here is UWR’s small guide to the wines that are perfect for the entire menu on Thanksgiving Day.
Producer: DNA Vineyards
Russian River Valley Estate Pinot Noir is handpicked from premium vines. These vines are grown in an exceptional combination of soil and micro-climate which helps produce one of the world’s finest Pinot Noir wines. This vintage is intensely coloured. It flaunts the fragrances of rose petal, honeysuckle and cardamom. The palate has flavours of rope Santa Rosa plums with hints of new French oak.

2016 Pinot Noir features a silky texture with light and bright aromas of fresh raspberry and spice. It has rich and complex flavours with a hint of earthiness that mixes well with cheery and pomegranate. It is the combination of 99% Pinot Noir and 1% Syrah. The wine is barrel-aged for 14 months in French oak barrels before bottling. It contains 14.2% alcohol by volume.
Producer: The Vice
The Vice Pinot Noir Rose 2017 is a wild vintage of The Vice. It flaunts elegant fragrances of watermelon, under-ripe strawberries, blood orange and roses. It is quite dry on the palate yet full of flavours of red fruits and citrus. The mouth-coating minerality balances the finish very well. This Pinot Noir vintage is a certified vegan wine and it has 12% alcohol by volume.

Reserve Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley 2015 has deep and spicy aromas of clove, vanilla and cherry galette. It has flavours of dark, crushed berries, melted chocolate and baking spices. It has the velvety texture and long finish. This one is one of the best Zinfandels for Thanksgiving Day. It is a combination of 90% Zinfandel and 10% Petite Syrah. It is barrel aged for 20 months in French oak before bottling and has 15.6% ABV.

Vinoski Zinfandel will give melted dark chocolate and coffee experience. It has black cherry and plums in the fragrance. You can share this experience with juicy thick New York steak with seared-on grill marks.

Ancient Vines Zinfandel flaunts spicy, bright strawberry, with coffee and chocolate characters. Wine’s subtle vanilla quality is a result of its ageing in new and used oak. You can accompany this wine with slow cooked BBQ pork, or chicken mole this Thanksgiving Day.

2016 Zinfandel has aromas of ripe red raspberry, cocoa and kirsch. The slight earthiness in it compliments its full and rounded mid-palate. It has nice acidity and fine tannins on the finish. IT is the blend of 89% Zinfandel and 11% Petit Sirah.
Producer: Salena Estate Wines
Twisted Sticks Organic Shiraz is a full-bodied wine with a deep brick-red colour. It flaunts the fragrances of notes of plums, blackberries and herbs. On the finish, it has hints of vanilla and velvet oak characters.
Producer: Serafino Wines
Serafino Sorrento Shiraz is a full-flavoured McLaren Vale Shiraz. It flaunts lifted cherry, plum and gentle spices on the nose. The palate is enduring with elegant fruit, filled with flavours and richness. It has 14.5% alcohol by volume.
Producer: Tiki Wine + Vineyards
Tiki Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2017 comes in pale straw green colour. It has tropical aromas for peach, melon and passion fruit. The underlying aromas are of grapefruit and gooseberry. The palate is ripe, full of flavours and has a tight structure which reflects attributes of Estate’s vineyards.
Thanksgiving Day is near and before it strikes, we will add some more suitable wines to this list.
