Salena Estate is a family-owned company making premium wines that redefine the standards for quality and value.“
Founded in 1998, Salena Estate is owned by Bob and Sylvia Franchitto. From the very beginning, Salena Estate’s objective was to become recognised as a maker of world-class wines that represent great value in any global market.
Over the years, Salena Estate’s pedigree has been confirmed again and again, as the winery has been awarded 20 trophies, 100 Gold medals and over 500 Silver, Bronze and other awards from competitions around the globe, as well as receiving critical acclaim from some of the world’s most influential wine writers.
In addition to producing wine brands that consumers can rely on with confidence, Salena Estate also offers bespoke contract bottling, private label and bulk wine services, with a special focus on organic wines.
Every Salena Estate wine is guaranteed to be made with the same meticulous care and attention to quality – no matter which variety, brand or price point.
With a focus on sustainable organic viticulture and winemaking.
To efficiently process the harvest of over 200 hectares of estate vineyards, a modern winery of considerable sophistication is required. The facilities at Salena Estate represent a multi-million dollar investment and incorporate the latest state-of-the-art equipment and systems.
Peak processing capacity at Salena Estate is over 15,000 tonnes of grapes, with 14 million litres of temperature controlled stain- less steel storage on-site. This storage is fed by large and small capacity bag presses and an assortment of fermenting vessels.
However, the traditional aspects of winemaking are embraced as well as the high-tech. Salena Estate winery also houses a sizable array of French and American oak hogsheads and barriques, where our red wines rest quietly for months or even years to develop the perfect oak maturation characters.
As a contract bottling facility and bespoke private label supplier, Salena Estate wine has also invested in the latest bottling technology, while the winery’s status as a certified organic processor enables us to satisfy demand in this expanding segment of the wine market.
For maximum precision and quality control throughout production, all processes are measured and monitored by the winery’s in-house laboratory facilities.
“Great wine is made in the vineyard”
At Salena Estate, the old winemaker’s maxim that “great wine is made in the vineyard” is taken to heart. To consistently achieve the highest quality fruit, the latest pruning, canopy management and other vineyard practices are undertaken to ensure opti- mum varietal expression from each and every harvest.
With significant vineyard plantings of 208 hectares (520 acres), varieties grown at Salena Estate include Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvi- gnon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Chardonnay, Colombard, Semillon and Riesling. Currently 100 hectares (250 acres) of Salena Estate wines are certified organic.
As a core element of philosophy, Salena Estate endeavours to employ a “minimal intervention” approach to weed and pest control. In fact, such is the winery’s commitment to the environment that all vineyard management regimes will soon be in line with organic practices.
Fruit is harvested in the cool of the morning, when the grapes are in peak condition, before being quickly transferred to modern winery, which is just minutes away on the same property.
BFR Touriga Lagrein Cabernet
This wine is a blend of Touriga, Lagrein and Cabernet Sauvignon. Each wine was fermented individually to get the most out of it before being expertly blended together. It is a vivid deep dark purple in colour with aromas of black cherries, florals, wild herbs and liquorice savouriness to round it out. The palate it supple, dapper and poised with a fine grip of wild black fruits, resulting in exotic savoury notes over a rich red and black berry fruit canvas with a long finish.
The Touriga was added to this blend as is contributes a big nose of grapey florals as well as some black fruit. It is also the reason for the intense colour, a vivid deep dark purple. The Lagrein was selected for this blend as it fills in any missing structure very well, as well as adding s silkiness to the texture. It also adds in some savouriness through selected herbal notes. The Cabernet Sauvignon was the final instalment for this blend as it generates some additional fruit weight and complements the fruit characters from the Touriga and Lagrein. In addition, it also creates balance on the palate and nice length as the perfect finish.
Bookpurnong Hill Block 267
This full-bodied wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Shiraz and exhibits an intense amalgam of berry fruits, spicy oak and complex overtones. These qualities are reinforced by a rich mouth filling palate with layers of velvety tannins and a smooth lingering finish.
