Coomber Family Wines - Where Love Of Animals Meets The Love Of Wine

22/06/2018 On this page you will find information about Coomber Family Wines

Its been more than eight years since they started making wines, they are now taking their wines to market.

In 2009 Coomber Family Wines started out making small batches of wine for their own enjoyment at Terravant, a fantastic wine-making facility in Buellton, California (a city made famous by the wine movie SIDEWAYS). Other well-known Santa Ynez Valley winemakers producing at Terravant are The Hitching Post Winery, Alma Rosa, Ken Brown and Summerland,  When in that area Terravant’s great restaurant and tasting room, Avant, provides the best opportunity in The Valley to taste wines from multiple wineries as its Wine Wall has 52 different Valley wines available to try, including their own wines.

Fortunately, Coomber Family Wines have been well-received and various friends (and restaurant owners) suggested that they make them available to the public. In fact, Bertrand Hug, owner of Mille Fleurs (a top 100 restaurant) and Bertrand at Mr. A’s told them that he would like to sell their wines in his restaurants.

In 2009, for what seemed like months, they sat at the dining room table designing their labels while sampling their wines.  Where does one start? As they sat there going over ideas Murphy, their black lab, insisted on sitting under their feet while Maggie, their skateboard-riding bulldog, sat there looking up at them with a tennis ball in her mouth, imploring someone to throw the ball for her.  Naturally, their three black and white cats, Cherry, Angel and Lucky, sat close to ‘em, either on a lap, behind one of ‘em on a chair or on an empty chair.  Decision for the subject of labels could not have been clearer. In one sense they have made Coomber Family Wine pets immortal.

Coomber Family Wines Style

From the outset Coomber Family Wines tried to make wines in the style that they like the most. If you like the flavour profiles below, you should really enjoy their wines:

Chardonnay: They prefer the “California” style of Chardonnay which is creamy and slightly buttery with a bit of oak. The oak adds a small amount of vanilla flavour and a smoothness/roundedness to the wine.

Pinot Noir: They prefer Pinot that has more body and a darker colour than the typical “wispy” Pinot that is most common. We like to say that we make Pinot that even a Cabernet drinker likes.

Cabernet Sauvignon: Big, Bad, Bold, Dark and Oaky, with flavours of black cherry, raspberry, chocolate, a hint of vanilla, and some mint. Although it definitely has layers, it is not subtle.

Thank you so much for purchasing Coomber Family Wine and for helping them support animal welfare organizations.

An excellent effort, the 2014 Lemon Cake Chardonnay Russian River Valley does a fine job of balancing out its full palate presence with crisp acidity. The wine's energy suggests a pairing with grilled bone-in chicken thighs
