A Boutique Winery Located In West Bend, Wisconsin

29/06/2018 Stringer Cellars embrace the highest winemaking standards along with traditional techniques to create wines that can be both powerful and elegant

Stringer Cellars is a small family run winery that started in a Wisconsin garage in 2010.  What began as a lark has now become a true boutique winery with winemaking facilities in both West Bend, Wisconsin and Napa Valley, California.

That first year they received a shipment of fresh fruit from Washington State.  Family and friends willing to trade hard work for a good story and good wine were invited to help hand de-stem and process the first few grape shipments.  With each subsequent vintage, they accumulated more equipment, more knowledge, better grapes and made better wine.

Today they still make wine in their Wisconsin winery, but as production grew, they searched for a place to make wine closer to the source. They found a space in the small town of Calistoga, in the heart of Napa Valley.  This location allows them to have access to more vineyards and varietals of grapes than ever before.

Stringer Cellars are proud to be making wine from some of the best vineyard sites throughout California. They subscribe to the adage, “wine is made in the vineyard.” They employ minimalist winemaking techniques, allowing the fruit and vineyard to show through in each wine - the last thing they want to do is get in the way of that. They embrace the highest winemaking standards paired with traditional methods to create a wine that can be both powerful and elegant.  This process is not the easiest way, but it’s the best way.

2015 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon: The 2015 Stringer Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot. The Cabernet comes from two vineyards in Napa, the hillside Hossfeld “Coliseum Block” and the Grigsby vineyard in Yountville. The Petit Verdot comes from the Atlas Peak region of the famed Stagecoach Vineyard. The PV adds a deep purple colour to the wine and floral lift to the nose. This structured Cabernet displays a nose of cherries, herbs, creosote and barrel toast. The wine’s flavour consists of the typical red fruited cherry and black currant, but with a hint of herbal savoriness. Though approachable now, this wine will reward short-term cellaring.

2015 Broken Leg Vineyard Syrah Anderson Valley: The 2015 Stringer Cellars Broken Leg Vineyard Syrah is 100% Syrah from the steep and remote Broken Leg Vineyard in the Anderson Valley AVA.  Anderson Valley is best known for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with distinct cool climate character. This Syrah is no different. The wine is medium bodied with silky tannins and displays a nose of violets, thyme, olive brine, and mixed red berries.  It is a pretty wine with a rustic edge.

2016 Metal Bender Red - California Red Blend: The “Metal Bender“ red is a homage to the Stringer Family’s manufacturing business. In the world of manufacturing, they are known as “Metal Benders.”  After approximately one year in barrel and after the wines have settled into what they were going to be, a barrel selection was made to decide what barrels would become the first label and what would be blended to become the “Metal Bender” blend.  The 2016 Metal Bender is comprised of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon from both Sonoma and Napa, 20% Syrah from Santa Barbara and Mendocino County, 13% Petite Sirah from Napa and 2% Petit Verdot from Napa as well. The wine displays notes of bright red cherry, vanilla and cedar with the structure and acid backbone to hold up to hearty dishes.

2017 Santa Barbara County Rosè: 100% direct press Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara County. The fruit comes from a vineyard on Cat Canyon Road just outside Los Alamos. The cool ocean breezes and early pick date give this wine racy acidity with a nose of fresh cut flowers and flavours of under ripe strawberries. This is a perfect accompaniment to any summer activity.

2016 John Sebastiano Vineyard Chardonnay Sta. Rita Hills: The 2016 Stringer Cellars John Sebastiano Vineyard (JSV) hails from within the windy, foggy limestone hills of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA in Santa Barbara County. The vineyard benefits from strong Pacific Ocean winds and a marine fog layer that makes the Sta. Rita Hills region so unique. This Chardonnay comes from a steep hillside block of JSV that is shrouded in fog every morning until it is burned away by the midday sun. This combination of fog and sun is what allows the fruit to retain a strong acid backbone while ripening. Flavours of citrus and lemon curd mix with hints of toasty oak to create a Chardonnay that is both rich in mouthfeel and light on its feet.
